Beyond Basics Medical Practice

Dr. Chiu was in the pioneer class of prestigious Brown University Program in Liberal Medical Education where he received a Bachelor degree in Applied Mathematics and Economics in 1989, and a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1994.  He also received a Master of Public Health degree from Harvard University School of Public Health in 1993.

Upon completion of his internship and residency training in Internal Medicine at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center in 1997, he entered faculty practice at Stanford Medical Group.  During his 11 years at Stanford, he served with distinction a large panel of patients as well as taught multitudes of residents and medical students.  For 8 years, Dr. Chiu served as Director of Internal Medicine Clerkship and Director of Advanced Medicine Clerkship at Stanford, teaching every future physician from Stanford.  He had twice won the award for Best Teacher of Division of General Internal Medicine at Stanford Medical School.  He also received Clinical Mentor Award for his mentoring of other physicians at Stanford Medical Group,

In 2003, Dr. Chiu and enthusiastic Stanford students founded the Pacific Free Clinic in San Jose, where on weekends, they serve many low income patients and new immigrants who have no access to healthcare.  He served as the Medical Director of Pacific Free Clinic for 5 years.  Dr. Chiu was awarded California Society of General Internal Medicine Outstanding Service Award in 2006 for his work in establishing and continuing support of the Pacific Free Clinic.

Dr. Chiu is also fluent and literate in Mandarin Chinese and Taiwanese.  He is an ardent cyclist and finished in the top ten at World Championships Solo 24 Hours of Adrenalin Mountain Bike Race.  He is married with 2 children.
